Hi! Welcome to Strong & Growing!

I’m Beth Jones. I’m a mother, an educator, a female athlete specialist, and a wellness coach who focuses on active teen and women, and how to help them improve their wellness and performance through exploration, wellness habits, and engaging in play.

I write about outside-the-box approaches to athletic wellness and sports medicine from my experience working with girls and women as an athletic trainer over the past 20 years, as well as my own experience of being a life-long athlete. What I’ve discovered is that when we bring play back into our lives we start to excel personally, athletically, and academically. Our society seems to be pushing out play to make room for more rigor, responsibility, and sports specialization, and I’d like to challenge and change that approach. When we start connecting with who we are beyond our athletic identities, moving in more ways, getting outside, and claiming a voice in choosing our own path leads to less anxiety and depression, better performance, and improved self-confidence.

So, let’s get playing again - both our daughters and ourselves. I’m going to give you some tools to do so!

Become one founding member of the Strong & Growing community!

Strong & Growing is a community for people who are fed up with the pressures and messages that we and our daughters are receiving around wellness, athletic, and academic life. It’s a place for parents to explore alternative ways of educating our daughters, to learn how to support mental and physical wellness in our teens, and to introduce healthy habits that are actually fun and accessible for them.

This is a “wellness community” for parents who are looking for a different approach for their families than what’s currently out there. For those who are looking to move beyond what’s taught in schools & by athletic organizations, and help their daughters create a life path that actually reflects their interests and goals, and to support them on their journey both on and off the field. It’s a place for us to escape from the messages regarding how we should raise our daughters, what their academic and athletic goals should be, and how they should be approaching their health, and instead start exploring their goals with them and return to play.

To return to that play that we encouraged when they were little. When we brought them to the playground and watched them act out their imagined adventures and embody their favorite athletes. Where we watched them climb, run, and laugh joyfully as they explored with friends. When we encouraged jumping in puddles, creating masterpieces in sand, and trying out new sports. The playground is where we all flourished when we were young, and where we nourished the ideas of who we wanted to become. It’s time to bring that back to our teens, but in a way that fits where they are at now.
